Getting Started

Starting a New Site

To start a new web site:

  • Go to the Snfty Home Page
  • Swipe through the ready-made sites to find the one that best suits your needs
  • Tap the Build It button

Snfty will set up your site so it's ready for you to begin customizing.

Your Home Page

Once your site is ready to be customized, you'll be presented with a preview of your Home Page.

From your site Home Page, you can access the basic tools you can use to begin customizing your site content starting with the View Toolbar and the Item Popper.

Posts

While your Core Content probably won't change very often, Posts help keep your web site content fresh (and your visitors coming back) by providing updates about what's going on right now.

Create posts about special events, seasonal sales, cat pictures, whatever you need.

Posts can be featured on your Home Page and can simply be an image and a headline or you can include a Post Details Page to provide your users with additional information.

View Toolbar

The dark gray View Toolbar at the bottom right allows you to toggle between:

  • View visibility - preview your site
  • Posts chat - your latest updates that keep your content fresh and your visitors returning
  • Core build Content - stuff that doesn't change very often such as your site title, address information, hours, etc.
  • Layouts view_quilt - add/remove/arrange items on your site
  • Launch/Publish shopping_cart - when you're ready to purchase/publish your site

These toolbars are only visible to you, the site owner - your visitors will not see them. If you're visiting your site and you DON'T see the toolbars, you might not be signed into your Snfty account.

  • A Post Title is required and must be unique as will be used to create the URL (link) to an optional Post Details View. For example, a post titled "My Great Post" will have the URL https://yoursitename.snfty.com/my-great-post.
  • The Post Promo/Summary can provide additional details about a specific post to your visitors on your site home page
  • Post Details are optional and can provide additional information (and/or images) about a topic to your users.
  • When you enter text into the Details field, a Post Details View is automatically created allowing your users to visit https://www.yourdomain.com/my-great-post to view the detailed Post.

You can post images to your site from almost any device including your mobile phone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer.

The basic requirements for images are:

  • JPG, PNG and GIF image files only
  • Maximum width/height of 5000 pixels
  • Maximum file size of 10 MB
  • You must have the legal right to use all images and other content featured on your Snfty web site

Loading Images

Images can be added to Posts and/or to your Core Content. Each Post supports multiple images which can be turned into slideshows.

To add a new image

  • Tap the blue camera icon (near the top of a Post, under the map in Core Content)
  • The little spinner icon will fade out once it's successfully loaded

Sorting Images

  • Drag and drop images to sort them
  • Sorting Post images changes their order of appearance on your public site in slideshows

Replacing Images

  • Tap the small camera icon in the lower left corner of any image to replace it

Deleting Images

  • Tap the times (X) icon in the lower right corner of any image to delete it. You'll need to confirm the deletion.

Editing Images

When images are first loaded into Snfty, they're automatically cropped to a fixed aspect ratio, resized and optimized to work well on your site.

For instances where you'd like to focus on a specific portion of an image, need custom cropping or would prefer to not have the image cropped at all - tap the image to open the Image Editor.

Image Editor Tools

  • The crop_16_9 button locks in the standard Snfty cropping ratio (recommended)
  • The crop_free button allows you to custom (free-form) crop the image without aspect ratio restrictions
  • The close button completely removes cropping from the image
  • Use the remove_circle_outline remove_circle add_circle add_circle_outline buttons to zoom in and out on the image
  • Use the rotate_left rotate_90_degrees_ccw rotate_right buttons to rotate the image
  • Use the cached button to reset the cropping interface

You can also add Titles and Descriptions which are sometimes used to provide additional details to your visitors, depending on where and how you decide to display your images.

Design/CSS

Overview

Snfty provides an extraordinary level of control over the look and feel of your web site by giving you direct access to many of the CSS properties that control the design.

Most of the concepts detailed below will probably feel somewhat familiar, some perhaps a bit less familiar. We've included many examples that you can experiment with on your own site and links for more information on each of the concepts if you'd like to learn more about them.

Don't be afraid to have fun and play around. If you mess your site up really badly, there's a Reset Design button to take you back to square one.

alignment

Alignment of items on your site.

If you've ever worked with tables in a Microsoft or Google product and aligned the text within a table cell to the left, center right, top, middle or bottom - this is pretty much the same concept.

Alignment gets a little more complex when there are multiple items in the same box. We'll be adding an advanced tutorial on that specific topic right here in the near future.

border

Sets the border properties of an item.

Examples
  • border: none (default)
  • border: 1px (a one pixel solid black border)
  • border: 2px dotted (a two pixel dotted black border)
  • border: 10px dashed #F00 (a ten pixel dashed red border)
More Information

border-radius

Sets the border-radius (eg: rounded corner) properties of an item.

Examples
  • border-radius: 0 (default squared corners)
  • border-radius: 5px (slightly rounded corners)
  • border-radius: 25px (pronounced rounded corners)
More Information

box-shadow

Adds shadow effects to an item.

Examples
  • box-shadow: none (default)
  • box-shadow: 60px -16px #333 (offset-x | offset-y | color)
  • box-shadow: 10px 5px 5px #8C8 (offset-x | offset-y | blur-radius | color)
  • box-shadow: 2px 2px 2px 1px rgba(0,0,0,0.2) (offset-x | offset-y | blur-radius | spread-radius | color)
  • box-shadow: inset 5em 1em #FB3 (inset | offset-x | offset-y | color)
More Information

colors

Each property (eg: Text) features two large color swatches: the top for the foreground color and the bottom for the background color.

Tap on any active color swatch and a palette of smaller swatches will pop up that you can select from.

You can also enter custom color values into any swatch:

Examples
  • orange (named colors)
  • #090 (hex colors - shorthand)
  • #009900; (hex colors)
  • rgb(34, 12, 64, 0.6) (rgb colors - eg: red, green, blue)
  • rgba(34, 12, 64, 0.6) (rgba colors - the last digits represent opacity)
  • hsl(30, 100%, 50%, 0.6) (hsl colors - eg: hue, saturation, lightness)
  • hsla(30, 100%, 50%, 0.6) (hsla colors - the last digits represent opacity)
  • transparent (no color)

Note that the Link and Hover color properties are often disabled as they only become available when the item you're editing features text links or buttons.

More Information

filter

The filter property lets you apply graphical effects such as adjusting colors, blurring and more. You can also combine multiple filters to achieve a wide variety of effects.

Examples
  • blur(5px) blur the element by 5 pixels
  • contrast(200%) increase the contrast
  • grayscale(80%) remove most of the color
  • hue-rotate(90deg) rotate the hues
  • contrast(1.4) saturate(1.8) sepia(.6) combining filters example
  • grayscale(1) brightness(0.45) contrast(1.05) another combining filters example
More Information

font-family

Snfty offers a selection of Google Fonts to choose from. Some will have weights (eg: 100, 200 500, etc.) which make the font thinner or bolder.

Examples
  • font-family: Roboto 100 (default)
  • font-family: Fontdiner Swanky
  • font-family: Times New Roman
More Information

font-size

Enter a number and a (CSS length) unit such as px, %, vw, etc. to set the font size of an item.

Examples
  • font-size: 16px (Pixels) 10px text will always be 10px no matter the size of the screen your users view your site on.
  • font-size: 1% (Percent) 10% sets the width or height of the item to 10% of the width or height of that item's parent element.
  • font-size: 5vw (Viewport Width) 5vw sets the width of the item to 5% of the width of the entire screen.
  • font-size: calc(1.5vw + 12px) (Viewport Width with a minimum font size of 12px) 1.5vw sets the width of the item to 1.5% of the width of the entire screen PLUS 12px. This makes sure the font size will never get smaller than 12px no matter how small your visitor's device screen is.
More Information

Global Style

Global Style sets the CSS properties for the entire page.

If you wanted the exact same fonts and colors for everything on your site, you could just set your global style and be done with it. But it's more likely you'll want to use a variety of fonts, colors and spacing on specific items to make them a bit more interesting or stand out a bit more. When you edit a specific item, it simply overrides the global design settings.

Mostly, Global Style is really handy for setting the basic fonts, colors and the background color of the pages on your site.

height

Enter a number and a (CSS length) unit such as px, %, vh, etc. to set the height of an item.

Examples
  • height: auto (default)
  • height: 75px (Pixels) 75px text will always be 75px no matter the size of the screen your users view your site on.
  • height: 33.3% (Percent) 33.3% sets the height of the item to 33.3% of the height of that item's parent element.
  • height: 100vh (Viewport Height) 100vh sets the height of the item to 100% of the height of the entire screen.
More Information

  • letter-spacing: 3px generous space between letters
  • letter-spacing: -1px tight spacing between letters
More Information

Sets the vertical spacing (eg: line spacing or leading) between lines of text.

Examples

  • line-height: 1.25 generous space between lines
  • line-height: 3 lots of space between lines
More Information

  • /my-great-post (the user will be taken to a Post on your site titled 'My Great Post')

Reset Design

Made a mistake? Can't edit something because of z-index (layering) issues?

It happens. Snfty surfaces a lot of powerful CSS design tools and while that makes it possible to make beautiful sites, it's also easy to break stuff.

Tap the Reset Design button at the bottom of the Design Toolbar and we'll put your site design back to its original state.

This won't affect your content. Your core information, your posts, the images you've loaded - all of that will all remain untouched. Only the CSS design will be affected.

Note: While the content won't change or disappear, any customizations you've done to the design you're about to reset will be discarded. Fonts, colors, spacing, alignments, etc. will all be reset.

Start Over

The Start Over option is available only on sites that haven't launched yet.

Say you're trying Snfty for the first time, dive in and realize that you'd rather create a different type of site. You can just start over.

Start Over deletes the entire temporary site you've been working on and takes you back to the Home Page where you can start all over.

text-shadow

Text shadows adds a dropshadow to your text.

Examples
  • text-shadow: none (default)
  • text-shadow: 1px 1px 2px #000 (offset-x | offset-y | blur-radius | color)
  • text-shadow: #FC0 1px 0 10px (color | offset-x | offset-y | blur-radius)
  • text-shadow: 5px 5px #59B (offset-x | offset-y | color)
  • text-shadow: #FFF 2px 5px (color | offset-x | offset-y)
  • text-shadow: 5px 10px (offset-x | offset-y)
More Information

Examples
  • transform: none (default)
  • transform: rotate(5deg) (rotate element 5 degrees clockwise)
  • transform: rotate(-15deg) (rotate element 15 degrees counter clockwise)
More Information

width

Enter a number and a (CSS length) unit such as px, %, vw, etc. to set the width of an item.

Examples
  • width: auto (default)
  • width: 75px (Pixels) 75px text will always be 75px no matter the size of the screen your users view your site on.

Your Account

Purchasing Sites

To purchase and launch a web site after you've customized it, tap the Launch button at the bottom of the View Toolbar to go to the Checkout View.

In the Checkout View, you'll be asked for the following information:

  • Choose Your Site URL - URLs (eg: http://mycompany.snfty.com) are unique to each site and are provided to our users on a first come, first serve basis. They must be at least five characters long. Once your web site is launched, you can point a custom domain at it if you like.
  • Enter your Email Address and create a Password for your account so that you'll be able to log back in to update and maintain your site.
  • Enter your credit card information. If you have a Coupon Code, enter that too.
  • Select either the Annual or Monthly Plan and tap Purchase Site.
  • Once your payment has been processed, you will be taken to the Sites Index view. At that point, it will take a few moments for your site to provision and then you can launch it.

Domain Pointing or Forwarding

If you have a domain (eg: mycompany.com) that you purchased from a provider/registrar (eg: GoDaddy, 1&1, etc.), you can point/forward it to your Snfty website so that your customers can visit your website at www.mycompany.com.

You don't need to change anything on Snfty to accomplish this - you only need to adjust a few settings at your registrar to properly point/forward your domain to your Snfty website.

Here are links to instructions for several popular registrars:

A couple of notes and tips to help smooth the process:

  • If you see instructions asking you to choose between 'masking' vs 'redirect', you probably want 'masking'. 'Masking' means your users will see 'http://www.mycompany.com', 'redirect' means your users will see 'http://mycompany.snfty.com' in their browser location window.
  • The changes you make at your registrar can take up to 24 hours to take effect.
